Ergonomia has been selected by the SNFCC AE as its Occupational Safety & Health Consultant during the construction of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), which will house the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera, both set within the Stavros Niarchos Park at the Faliron Delta area in Athens. The designer is the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, a world-renowned architectural firm.
The SNFCC will include the latest in environmentally progressive, state-of-the-art facilities, and it has been conceptualized with the highest standards of environmental sustainability. A pivotal design element that will play a significant role in helping the Center achieve this standard can be seen in Renzo Piano’s and his Building Workshop’s innovative roof– a series of interconnected photovoltaic cell panels which will cover the structure’s energy needs, taking advantage of the pure “green” solar and wind energy. SNFCC is also expected to receive LEED certification. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art practices in five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality.
Advanced works have already started at the SNFCC site. The Center is expected to open in 2016, and to attract millions of visitors every year. Its construction and equipment will be funded exclusively by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation with a budget of 566 million Euros.
