Radiation Protection Officer
Enterprises which install, repair and maintain medical equipment, or provide support and products for medical use in areas with ionising radiation should be licensed and controlled by the Greek Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC). The Radiation Protection Officer is required by GAEC in order to protect the employees from risks associated with the exposure to ionising radiation.
Work activities involving the risk of exposure in ionising radiation should be undertaken only by the personnel of such enterprises.
Examples of such work activities are the following:
- Installing, repairing and monitoring of the operation of medical equipment which produces or detects ionising radiation, such as linear accelerators, gamma radiation cameras, imaging equipment etc. as well as,
- Supporting medical procedures.
