Symptoms:

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Itching

First aid:

  • Call emergency medical services 112/166
  • Remove the stinger remaining in the skin as soon as possible
  • Medication (e.g. antihistamines, corticosteroids, painkillers): in accordance with medical instructions
  • Wash the sting area with soap and water
  • Apply ice or cold packs
  • If anaphylaxis occurs after a bite, provide first aid as outlined in the “Anaphylaxis” subsection

 

Snake Bite

Symptoms:

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Coagulopathy
  • Organ failure

First aid:

  • Call 112/166 immediately
  • Keep the person calm, at rest and keep the bitten body part still
  • Remove tight clothes, rings or watches from the affected limb
  • Wash the bite with soap and water
  • Cover the bite with a clean, dry dressing

  • Move person to cooler, shaded location
  • Remove excess clothing
  • Measure core temperature
  • Continue cooling for 15 min or until neurological symptoms resolve, whichever is first
  • Monitor body temperature

  • Sudden numbness or weakness of face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body
  • Confusion
  • Trouble speaking or understanding speech
  • Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Trouble walking
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of balance or coordination
  • Severe headache with no known cause
