Strain & Sprain

Symptoms:
- Intense pain
- Swelling
- Limited mobility
First aid:
- Avoid activities that cause pain and seek medical attention 112/166
- Apply cold patches for 20 to 30 minutes per application
- Apply a compression wrap after an acute ankle sprain or strain to promote comfort after injury
Dislocation

Symptoms:
- Distortion
- Inability to move
- Sudden pain
- Sudden swelling
First aid:
- Get medical help as soon as you can 112/166
- Don't move the joint
- Apply cold patcheson the injured joint
Fracture

Symptoms:
- Obvious Deformity
- Swelling
- Severe pain with or without movement
- Bruising
- Protruding bone
First aid:
- If a fracture is associated with an open wound and severe bleeding, First aid for Life-Threatening Bleeding should be followed
- If a fractured extremity is blue, purple, or pale, seek medical help immediately 112/166
- Splinting an injured extremity in the position found should be done by medical staff
- Cover an open wound with a clean dressing to lower the risk for further contamination and infection
