Symptoms:

  • Sudden numbness or weakness of face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body
  • Confusion
  • Trouble speaking or understanding speech
  • Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Trouble walking
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of balance or coordination
  • Severe headache with no known cause

Fist aid:

  • Call for help 112/166
  • Help the person get into the best possible position and support them if they are at risk from falling
  • Do not give anything to eat or drink, as swallowing may be impaired
  • Monitor the person’s breathing and reassure them. Keep talking to the person
  • If the person becomes unconscious but is breathing normally > recovery position
  • If the person is unresponsive and not breathing normally > CPR
