During the seizure:

  • Follow the person’s seizure management plan if there is one in place
  • Carefully lay the person on the ground
  • Remove any harmful objects
  • Turn the person on the side when practical
  • Place something soft under their head
  • Stay with the person and time the seizure
  • Call for help 112/166

Once the seizure has stopped:

  • Check the person’s responsiveness and breathing
  • If the person is unresponsive and not breathing normally > CPR
  • If the person is unconscious but is breathing normally > Recovery Position
  • Frequently reassess their breathing
  • Reassure the person who may be dazed, confused or drowsy
